FREE COMMUNITY EVENT: "Suite For Africa”
The Jazz Society of Fairfield County brings composer, pianist, and performer Amina Figarova and The Matsiko World Orphan Choir from Liberia to Westport for a free community event. A native of Baku, Azerbaijan, Figarova has risen from her upbringing behind the Iron Curtain to become of the most celebrated pianists and composers on the international jazz scene. Her new CD, “Suite for Africa”, with the Matsiko World Organ Choir was released just a few months ago, and they have been on tour together all summer.
The Matsiko World Orphan Choir has brought together our world’s orphaned and vulnerable children to share their story of turning the pain of loss, hunger, and hopelessness into personal empowerment, to instill love, joy, hope, and optimism for the future.
Figarova and her sextet are on a worldwide tour with these young singers to raise funds and awareness for the [pliught of youth everywhere.
