You are cordially invited to the Fairfield County premiere of FOOD & COUNTRY, Ruth Reichl’s award winning documentary about the food supply landscape in today’s America presented by FTC Film, WPKN and co-hosted by the Westport Farmers Market.
Ms. Reichl, a rock star in the food world, is the former editor of GOURMET magazine, the author of several books mostly about food or the experience of eating food, and served as the restaurant critic for the New York Times. Ruth will be present and joined by two other culinary icons, Ed Levine, the pioneering creator of the Serious Eats website and a true “missionary of the delicious” as Ruth has referred to him, and Michel NIschan, founder of Wholesome Wave, the Bridgeport based, non-profit aimed at ending food insecurity across the nation. These three pillars of the gastronomical world will talk about reactions to the movie and answer questions from the audience. It’s sure to be a lively and insightful conversation.

Ruth Reichl | Ruth Reichl was the restaurant critic of the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times and the editor in chief of Gourmet Magazine. She has written 5 memoirs, 2 cookbooks and 2 novels, the most recent being The Paris Novel. She is the recipient of 7 James Beard awards, including Lifetime Achievement.
Ed Levine | Ed Levine is the host and creator of the podcast Special Sauce. He is the founder of the seminal food website and blog Serious Eats. Ed is the recipient of three James Beard Awards, including Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America. He has written or co-written 7 books, the most recent being an entrepreneurial memoir, Serious Eater: A Food Lover's Perilous Quest for Pizza and Redemption.
Michel Nischan | Chef Michel Nischan is a four-time James Beard award winning chef with over 40 years of leadership advocating for a more healthful, sustainable food system. A lifetime Ashoka Fellow, Chef Michel co-founded the James Beard Chefs Boot Camps for Policy and Change and serves as a Founding Director on the board of the Jacques Pepin Foundation. In 2007, Chef Michel co-founded the food equity nonprofit Wholesome Wave in partnership with the late Undersecretary of Agriculture, Gus Schumacher, and with grant funding from his late partner, Paul Newman. Their work to help low-income families access fresh fruits and vegetables is now a permanent part of the federal farm bill.
