Hot & Cool Jazz: World Premiere of Jon De Lucia's Brubeck Octet Project Part 2

Please join Wilton Library for a very special and historic jazz concert: the world premiere of the unrecorded music of the Dave Brubeck Octet with restored arrangements by saxophonist Jon De Lucia. The Brubeck Octet, formed in the 1940s, is where Brubeck and his fellow composition students at Mills College explored musical concepts like polytonality and odd meters for the first time. After years of research at Mills and here in The Brubeck Collection at Wilton Library, De Lucia brought these arrangements back to life for the first time since the 1950s, winning critical acclaim for this 2024 release, The Brubeck Octet Project. As a follow-up to Jon's first octet concert here at Wilton Library last year, he's bringing back his all-star jazz octet featuring Grammy-winning saxophonist Scott Robinson to perform these new tunes.
Saxophonist/arranger Jon De Lucia is a 20-year veteran of the NYC jazz scene. His sixth release, The Brubeck Octet Project, focuses on the little known early music of Dave Brubeck and is an outgrowth of De Lucia's archival work as a PhD candidate in Musicology at the CUNY Graduate Center.
