Pequot Library History Day: An Afternoon with Wes Haynes and Cecily Dyer
Historic preservationist, nonprofit administrator, and Pequot Library board member Wes Haynes will detail the unique facets and architectural characteristics that make Pequot Library and its peers throughout the state so significant. This program is organized in conjunction with the current exhibition, A Community Treasure: Pequot Library Turns 135, and occurs on the final day that the exhibition will be on view. Join Special Collections Librarian Cecily Dyer for an expansive talk illustrating the founding of Pequot Library. Dyer will explain the rise of the Marquand family, detailing how one woman, Virginia Marquand Monroe, used her family’s considerable wealth and goodwill to create an institution for the public’s benefit. Come prepared with any questions you might have about the library’s history.
This program is free and open to the public. Please consider making a $10 donation to keep Pequot Library going strong.
