Part of the Norwalk Film Festival, "The Work" is an intensive four-part series workshop focusing on the day-to-day practice of filmmaking – all of it gleaned from seasoned professionals who roll up their sleeves to develop story, direct a casting, get the shots and master post. 

  • STORY: Dallas Brennan Rexer has been creatively involved in producing award-winning documentaries for over 25 years. Most recently she was the showrunner on Apple TV+ top-rated limited series The Dynasty, about the 20-year epic rise and fall of the New England Patriots football team. Prior to that, she was the co-writer and creative producer for Netflix's top-rated feature documentary THE VOLCANO: Rescue From Whakaari, directed by Rory Kennedy. In addition, Dallas has produced numerous feature-length documentaries on a variety of topics including: Christy Turlington Burns’ No Woman, No Cry (Tribeca Film Festival, OWN), Academy-award winner Carol Dysinger’s Camp Victory, Afghanistan (SXSW, public television), Kirsten Johnson and Katy Chevigny’s Emmy-nominated Deadline (Sundance Film Festival, NBC primetime special), Andrew Walton’s Arctic Son (Full Frame Film Festival, POV), and Phil Bertelsen’s Outside Looking In: Transracial Adoption in America (ITVS).
  • CASTING: Stephanie Holbrook is a Casting Director known mainly for film work. Stephanie cast Somewhere in Queens, directed by Ray Romano, which premiered at TriBeCa Film Festival last year, as well as Marc Meyers’ Human Capital, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Prior films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival are The Wolf Hour, Abe, and The Lifeguard. Stephanie also cast The Kindergarten Teacher and Madeline’s Madeline, both at Sundance and for which Stephanie earned Artios Awards for Excellence in Casting. Past film credits include My Friend Dahmer (Tribeca 2017), EquityChristine, and The Eyes of My Mother (all premiering at Sundance), Life Of Crime, ApplesauceGhost Team, Ratter, Ava’s PossessionsThe Abandoned, Jane Wants a Boyfriend, One Percent More Humid, The Happening for M Night Shyamalan, The Book of Love (TriBeCa 2016), Ordinary World, Three Generations, Catfight (Toronto International Film Festival), Landline and Thoroughbreds (both Sundance films). Stephanie cast the reboot of The Grudge and covered NY casting for John Wick 3.  Stephanie cast Alan Brown’s Private Romeo (Grand Jury Prize for Acting, Outfest 2011). Stephanie also cast Brown’s Superheroes (Maverick Spirit Award, Cinequest 2008) and Five Dances (2013)
  • CINEMATOGRAPHY: Trish Govoni is an accomplished director and cinematographer. Her numerous credits span a wide variety of documentary, narrative and commercial projects. Her latest film with director Godfrey Reggio, Once Within A Time premiered at the Santa Fe International Film Festival in 2022. Other doc credits include The Witness and The Wrecking Crew. Her work as a DP can also be seen in the Netflix Christmas movie Holly Star. She has shot countless commercials, branded campaigns and PSAs for the likes of Visa, Levi’s, Sony, Microsoft, Tostitos, OLAY Subaru, and many other global brands.
  • POST PRODUCTION: Paul C. Rosen is the owner and driving force behind Nitrous Ltd, a premier video agency that specializes in delivering cutting-edge production, editorial, visual effects and finishing services for film, television and digital media. Paul built Nitrous to push the envelope - technically and creatively - for clients like HBO, ESPN, BMW, Nike, Samsung, Taco Bell, Mastercard, Arista Records, and Def Jam. Paul has produced original content for the Superbowl, the World Series, Game of ThronesThe SopranosSex In The CityEntourage and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver to name a few. 

THE WORK will take place on Sunday, 10 AM to 2 PM at SPACE67STUDIOS at 67 Wall Street. 

***Note: the workshops are free to attend, and can join at any point during the 4 hours. Tickets are required for any screenings at the festival.
