Gee’s Bend Quilts with Tangular Irby via Microsoft Teams, a Black History Month Program

Special presentation with local author Tangular A. Irby, who will talk about Gee’s Bend quilts, which are renowned for their unique and vibrant style and were created by the women of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. This small, rural community has a rich tradition of quilting, with designs that are deeply rooted in African American heritage and reflect a blend of personal and cultural narratives.

Tangular A. Irby, founder of Learning Advantage Network Diversified (Learning AND) in Shelton, is a dedicated educator and Gee's Bend quilt descendant. Moved by George Floyd's murder in 2020, she uses her platform to highlight personal stories and legacy. Her children’s book, Pearl and her Gee's Bend Quilt, and journal, Preserving the Legacy, inspire families to explore and document their histories. Through public speaking and educational consulting, she promotes the importance of storytelling and connection.
